If you notice a problem with sound reproduction on your computer, you should be aware that the reason for this may be not only a malfunction of the sound card, but also the absence of installed codecs, card driver updates, incorrect operation of speakers or a player. It does not require any special skills to determine what the problem is.

It is necessary

  • - acoustic system;
  • - a computer;
  • - installed player;
  • - updated versions of sound card drivers;
  • - multiple sound files for playback.

Instructions

Step 1

Connect headphones or another speaker to the green connector on your sound card. Check if there is sound in this case. Please note that drivers must be installed on the sound card, and codecs must also be installed to play various formats of audio and video files.

Step 2

If the problem persists, open My Computer, right-click on the space free of shortcuts, select Properties, then the Hardware tab. Open Device Manager.

Step 3

Make sure your sound card is listed in the Hardware, Sound, Video and Game Controllers list. If the desired position is there, click on its icon with the right mouse button, in the "Properties" select the "General" tab. The status window should read "The device is operating normally." If it says otherwise, then you should follow these steps.

Step 4

Update the device driver. To do this, in the "Device Manager" on the sound card icon, right-click, select "Update device". Next, in the window that appears, allow the update wizard to access the Internet. You can also follow this procedure if you have updated drivers on your hard drive or removable media. In this case, select the installation from the specified location and specify the path to the required folder.

Step 5

Check the correct technical installation of the device. To do this, disconnect the computer from the power source, open the cover and make sure that the sound card is firmly seated in the appropriate connector. Please note that this item is relevant only if you have an external sound card, i.e. it is installed on the computer as a separate board.

Step 6

If your sound card is not a separate device, make sure that the motherboard drivers are installed correctly.
