Sooner or later, everything breaks down and falls into disrepair. The same applies to computer components. Having served their time, they need to be replaced. At the same time, in one of the first places in terms of failure time is a computer mouse.

Instructions

Step 1

Disconnect the old mouse from the computer system unit. To do this, remove its wire from the corresponding connector on the computer.

Step 2

Take a new mouse. Determine the type of interface it uses. The most common among them are PS / 2 and USB.

Step 3

If the mouse has a PS / 2 interface, locate the corresponding connector on the back of the computer's system unit. As a rule, there are two of them - one is purple, the other is green. A green connector is used to connect a mouse, a purple connector is used to connect a keyboard. Some motherboards are capable of automatically detecting the type of device connected, so the mouse will work even if it is not connected correctly. However, not all motherboards have this property.

Step 4

Some computers may have only one PS / 2 connector, or none at all. In the first version, it is designed to connect one of two devices - a mouse or keyboard. The second device must be connected using a USB connector. This is due to the gradual move away from the use of PS / 2.

Step 5

If your new mouse has a USB interface, connect it to the appropriate connector. Many computers have enough USB ports to handle a variety of devices. For convenience, some of them are located on the front panel of the system unit. Connect the mouse to the port that is more convenient for you.

Step 6

When you connect a mouse, the standard driver will be installed automatically. If the device has additional buttons, you need to install the driver yourself for full operation. If you own such a mouse, insert the supplied CD-ROM into your computer's drive. Wait for it to load, then select "Install driver". After the end of the process, you may need to reboot the system.
