Modern hard drives are very sensitive to overheating. Temperatures over 40 ° C can adversely affect their work, up to a complete failure. Therefore, cooling the hard drive will certainly increase its lifespan by storing data that can be much more expensive than the hardware itself.
It is necessary
Aluminum radiator, two coolers, front panel, front panel air filter
Instructions
Step 1
Pick up sufficiently powerful coolers that can blow over such a rather big part as a hard drive, for example, Titan TTC-HD82. An aluminum radiator with stiffening ribs should be the same size as the hard drive, and be hollow inside. This is necessary so that the air circulates not only around the hard drive, but also inside the radiator, cooling it too. Included with the radiator, purchase a front panel covered with a decorative grille, which at the same time acts as an air filter.
Step 2
Assemble the cooling device. To do this, attach the coolers to the heatsink with the mounting screws. Attach the fastening strips to it with special spring-loaded screws (springs are installed in them instead of washers). Initially tighten these screws all the way, compressing the springs completely. There is a place for a hard drive between the strips. Carefully remove the hard drive and insert it into the slot between the radiator strips. Clamp it between the radiator strips with the mounting screws. Then release the spring-loaded bolts, firmly pressing the hard drive to the radiator. The cooling unit is completely assembled, check that the fasteners are secure and proceed to install it into the computer.
Step 3
The design is mounted in a free five-inch compartment (this is the compartment where the DVD drive is mounted). Insert the hard drive with the heatsink into the designated place, so that the coolers are facing outward. Fasten the radiator brackets in the compartment with the mounting screws. Provide power to the coolers by attaching their wires to the pin connectors. Install in the reverse order all the cables on the hard drive. Check the operation of the installation by turning on the computer, it should boot completely, and the coolers should start working. If there is a malfunction, check the contacts. Install the front panel as well as the decorative air filter.
