The lack of sound on a laptop, as in desktop computers, is almost always the result of incorrect settings. The reason may lie both in the trivial volume control and in setting the functions of the sound card. To get the sound back, you need to make a number of laptop settings.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, check the position of the volume control, which is located on the laptop case, initially it should be at the minimum values. Try to increase the volume by turning it in the desired direction.
Step 2
If the problem is not resolved, use the standard mixer - Windows utility to adjust audio settings, in most cases it will be the Realtek AC97 Audio panel. The mixer has a variety of sliders for adjusting the volume, balance, and frequencies of the sound. Here you need to pay attention to the Mute All checkbox, it must be unchecked. If there is no sound from certain devices, such as Microphone, CD or DVD, you need to adjust the corresponding sliders.
Step 3
If you are using external speakers as a sound source, check their setting. They usually require an external power source, check that they are plugged into an outlet and that the volume is adjusted.
Step 4
If you cannot get the sound back on different device settings, try updating your sound card software. Insert the disc that came with the laptop into the floppy drive and reinstall the corresponding driver.
