The Windows Vista operating system provides many options for changing various settings so that each user can adapt the interface to work in the most appropriate way. In particular, this concerns sound settings and the choice of individual sound effects accompanying events.
Instructions
Step 1
Each Windows Vista user has a different way of working with a computer. Therefore, the policy of this operating system is to flexibly configure the parameters, which allows you to more individually build the interface and sound for work, thereby increasing the efficiency of your work.
Step 2
Open the Control Panel to adjust the sound. This can be done through the start button "Start". On the panel go to the "Hardware and Sound" section.

In the window that opens, you will see all the devices used while the system is running. Find the "Sound" section, it contains three subsections: "Adjust volume", "Change system sounds" and "Manage audio devices".
Step 4
By default, there are two volume controls in the “Volume” window that appears when the first subsection is selected. The first, called "Device", is responsible for playing sound through speakers or headphones. The second, Windows Sounds, controls the volume of the system sounds that accompany various events. This setting can also be called from the lower right of the screen on the taskbar.
Step 5
The Changing System Sounds subsection controls the setting of Windows sound effects. By default, the standard sound scheme is set, which can be changed. To do this, on the “Sounds” tab, select the required line from the “Program events” list, then the desired melody from the “Sounds” drop-down list.
Step 6
You can add your own sound files using the Browse button. The setting also provides an opportunity to listen to the selected recording by pressing the "Check" button. In addition to the standard sound scheme, Vista provides a complete lack of sound, which can be set by selecting the "Silent" scheme. When you finish changing the settings, click Apply and close the window.
Step 7
The third subsection is called “Sound Device Management”. Here, on the "Playback" or "Recording" tabs, you can configure new audio devices or change the parameters of existing ones. To do this, select a device from the list and click "Properties". The changed parameters can be checked by the "Configure" command. When finished, click "Apply" for the new settings to take effect.

Close the Control Panel.
