It is often not very convenient to print numbers on buttons located in one long row. An optional numeric keypad is provided to facilitate typing on full-size keyboards.
Instructions
Step 1
A full-size computer keyboard contains two keyblocks, a primary and a secondary. The main block contains a longitudinal row of numeric buttons, the alphabet, the space bar, and function and control keys such as Enter and whether Shift. The additional block contains only numbers and symbols. The buttons are arranged like in a regular accounting calculator. This allows you to quickly and without errors type large arrays of numbers, as well as perform arithmetic operations on them.
Step 2
To enable the dialing of numbers on a full-size keyboard, you must press the NumLock key, which is usually located in the upper left corner of the number pad. Some keyboards may have this button in a different location. When the dialing mode is on, one of the three LEDs on the keypad will light up. When the button is pressed again, the reverse switching occurs, while the keys of the digital block will duplicate the arrows, as well as the End, Home and some others.
Step 3
Many compact laptops do not have an additional numeric keypad on their keyboards. Instead, it provides the ability to conveniently enter numbers from the alphabetical keyboard. Examine the laptop keyboard. Computer manufacturers put numbers on the buttons on the main keyboard along with letters. Their configuration generally repeats the location of the numbers on the NumPad. On an alphabetic keyboard, it looks like this: "b" - 0; "O", "l", "d" - 1, 2, 3; "G", "w", "u" - 4, 5, 6, respectively. The numbers 7, 8 and 9, regardless of the input mode, retain their only meaning.
Step 4
Switching the alphabetic keyboard of the laptop to the numeric input mode is the same as for the full-size keyboard - by pressing the NumLock button. In order to briefly switch the keyboard to the numeric input mode, you must press the Fn button and simultaneously press the necessary buttons on the main keyboard.
