Most of the keys on a computer keyboard can have more than one function, but several different functions, depending on which mode is selected. Knowledge of these subtleties significantly saves working time. For example, if the text contains a large number of numbers, then it is inconvenient and long to use keys arranged in a row to type them. It is much easier to use the "blind method" by switching to a dedicated numeric keypad.

Instructions

Step 1

Standard computer keyboards contain two keyblocks, one primary and one secondary. The main one includes alphanumeric, function and control keys located in the center of the keyboard. An additional block is numbers and signs, separately grouped to the right of the main keys. Working with them is carried out in the Num Lock (NumLk) mode - "fixing numbers". If you work in accounting or a bank, then this function is for you. The numbers here are arranged according to the principle of a calculator - you can easily use the "blind method" of typing, without being distracted from the text typed on the main panel.

Step 2

But not all keyboards have an add-on unit - for example, most laptops don't have one. Here, the Num Lock feature works by switching letters to numbers. Take a closer look at your PC - on some alphabet keys, in addition to the letters of the Russian and English alphabets, you will also see numbers and signs. It is these keys that will perform the function of "additional" in the NumLk mode.

Step 3

In the Russian layout it looks like this: "b" - 0; "O", "l", "d" - 1, 2, 3; "G", "w", "u" - 4, 5, 6, respectively. The numbers 7, 8 and 9 retain their position in the main numeric ruler on the corresponding keys. The "+" sign will be in place of a dot (without Shift), while simultaneously functioning in its usual place (while pressing Shift). The "-" sign can be typed with the "g" key. The letter "x" will serve as Enter, "z" - an asterisk (*), digit 0 - a right slash (/).

Step 4

If, in the process of working with numbers, you need letters again, then without disabling NumLk, you can dial them while holding down the Fn key (located at the bottom left). For capital letters and punctuation marks, Shift + Fn is used.
