Any more or less modern laptop necessarily has a Wi-FI wireless interface. In addition to convenient access to the Internet in any cafe or hotel room, this method of communication can be useful for creating a network between your computer and someone else's.
Instructions
Step 1
Create a network on one of the laptops. How Wi-fi works requires a host, i.e. the main device of the network. For example, it could be a wireless router. And in your case, when there are only two laptops, one of them should become the host. Which computer will be the "server" has no fundamental difference. Open Control Panel and select the Network Connections menu - if you are using Windows XP. If wi-fi is not disabled on your laptop, you will see an icon labeled “Wireless Connection” in the network connections menu. If the icon is gray, that is, inactive, or not, turn on the power on the laptop case. The required button is marked with an antenna and illuminated by a light bulb.
Step 2
Right-click on the connection icon and select Properties. A window with information about the connection will open, in it select the line with the name "Internet Protocol TCP / IP" and again click the "Properties" button. Check the box "Use the following IP address" and enter the address for your laptop, for example 192.168.3.1. Specify the subnet mask - 255.255.255.0 and save by clicking on OK. Then click on the "Wireless Networks" tab and click "Advanced". You will see a window with three options for choosing the type of network, check the "Computer-to-computer network" item and click "Close".
Step 3
Click the "Add" button at the bottom of the window on the wireless networks tab. A window will open in which you need to enter a name for the network, this is done in the field opposite the inscription SSID. For a one-time or occasional connection, it is convenient to disable encryption and network protection - select the "Open" and "Disabled" values in the fields below the network name.
Step 4
If you plan to use the network frequently, then select the option with verification, that is, "Enabled" and enter the password for the network in the corresponding field. Be sure to write down the key password, without it it will be impossible to connect to your network. When you finish entering data, click OK in all windows. The network is created, it remains only to connect a second laptop to it.
Step 5
Open the "Network Connections" folder on the second laptop. Double-click the wireless icon to open the network browser and search window. Click the "Refresh network list" button and double-click on the line with the required SSID - the name of the created network. If you provided a password for the network during the setup process, you will need to enter this password when connecting from a second laptop. After a few seconds, the connection will be established.
Step 6
If not, manually configure the IP address of the "slave" laptop. To do this, right-click on the connection icon, select the "Properties" menu and specify the IP address as on the first laptop. One nuance - the last digit should be different, for example, if there was 192.168.3.1 on the "Network Server", then on the "client" there should be 192.168.3.2. After changing the IP address, restart your laptop.
