Home servers connect computers on a specific local network to the Internet. A router or one of the specified computers can be used as a server.
It is necessary
- - network cables;
- - router.
Instructions
Step 1
To avoid network disruptions and ensure high-quality fast communication between computers, it is recommended to use a router. Purchase this equipment. When choosing a network device, pay attention to the following two parameters: the presence of the required number of LAN connectors and the type of Internet connection channel.
Step 2
Connect the router to the mains by placing the device in the desired location. During intensive operation, this equipment can become very hot, so do not install the router near a heating appliance. Connect all the required computers to the LAN channels of the network device. To do this, use a twisted pair cable (RJ-45 network cables).
Step 3
Turn on the device and make sure that a new network connection has been automatically created for all of your computers. Now you need to configure your router to perform server functions. Connect the ISP cable to the Internet (WAN) connector of the equipment.
Step 4
Launch a web browser on a computer connected to the router and enter the IP address of this unit. Press the Enter key and wait for the network equipment settings interface to open. Go to Internet Setup or WAN menu.
Step 5
Change the parameters of the desired items in this menu. Typically, a username, password, and internet access point are required. Be sure to check if DHCP and NAT functions are active. Save the new parameters of the router by pressing the corresponding key. If the equipment does not reboot automatically, then disconnect it from the mains for 20-30 seconds.
Step 6
Reopen the router interface and go to the Status menu. Check the connection to the provider's server. Make sure Internet access is available on all connected computers.
