Instructions
Step 1
If you already have a single-port DSL modem, purchase a device that allows you to connect multiple computers to the modem. In this situation, you can get by with a hub that lacks the ability to configure ports. Connect the LAN port of the hub to the Ethernet (LAN) port of the modem using a network cable.
Step 2
Now connect the DSL connector of the modem to the telephone line cable through the splitter. Connect all computers to LAN ports on the network hub. Turn on one of the selected PCs.
Step 3
Launch an Internet browser and go to the web interface of the DSL modem settings by entering its IP in the address bar. Open the WAN menu. Select the type of data transfer protocol supported by your ISP. Specify the option for obtaining an IP address (Dynamic or Static IP). Enter the required information to obtain authorization on the server.
Step 4
Save your settings and reboot your DSL modem. Now open the advanced network (LAN) settings menu. Activate NAT and DHCP functions. They are needed to automatically issue IP addresses to computers and to provide them with access to some Internet resources. Repeat the procedure to reboot your DSL modem.
Step 5
Open the list of network connections. Go to configuring the network card connected to the hub. Select the properties of the TCP / IP protocol. Check the boxes next to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Save the network adapter settings.
Step 6
Carry out a similar procedure, changing the parameters of the network cards of other computers. Open the web interface of the modem and click the Connect button. Make sure that Internet access is available on all computers connected to the network hub.
