Instructions

Step 1

Start Photoshop. A toolbar appears on the right side of the window. If the panel is not visible, go to the Window menu and check the Tools checkbox. The panel is divided into several sections: one contains the selection and movement tools, the other - drawing and retouching, the third - creating raster and vector shapes. The toolbar also contains icons for the color palette, quick mask, etc.

Step 2

Some of the icons in the toolbar have a small black triangle at the bottom right. A group of tools that perform similar functions are combined under these icons. To see the entire set, right-click on the icon. After that, you can select the desired tool by clicking on it.

Step 3

Hot keys are assigned to all groups of tools and individual tools. They appear as a tooltip to the right of the tool name when you hover over the icon. Thus, you can activate a tool or group not only by clicking on the toolbar, but also by pressing a hotkey. To select a specific tool from a group, press the hotkey while holding down Shift.

Step 4

After you select a tool, its settings appear on the property bar. The set of properties is often very different even for tools from the same group, for example, the "Gradient" and "Fill" from the G group.

Step 5

The group of selection tools, which is activated with the "M" key, is very important. If a fragment of an image is selected, then all commands will be applied only to this section. In the absence of selection, the actions of the commands apply to the entire layer. For example, if you select a rectangle on a white layer and apply the Paint Bucket Tool, only the selected area will be painted. If you remove the selection, the paint will fill the entire layer.

Step 6

In the same section there are tools with which you can select fragments of irregular shapes: the Lasso group and the Magic Wand Tool ("Magic Wand"). They determine the difference in color shades between a given area and the rest of the image. On the property bar, you can adjust their sensitivity and brush diameter. Tools from the group Crop and slice tools ("Crop"), you can cut frames and crop the image.

Step 7

When correcting photographs, tools from the Retouching tools section are often used. For example, the Spot Healing Brush ("Spot Healing Brush") allows you to remove defects and artifacts from the image, such as a pimple from the face. Clone Stamp Tool ("Stamp") clones the part of the image, taken as a sample. Thus, you can remove from the photo an unwanted element in the form of, for example, an empty tin can, replacing it with green grass from the lawn. When working with these tools, you must select the diameter, brush hardness and blending mode on the property bar.

Step 8

The Edit in quick mask mode tool is very useful. It allows you to create complex shaped selections and process individual image fragments. To activate it, set the default colors on the palette (black foreground and white background) and press Q. After that, activate the Brush tool and paint over the part of the image that should remain unchanged. The drawing will be covered with a semi-transparent red layer. Press Q again and start working on the unprotected part of the image.

Step 9

To select colors, double-click on the palette icon on the toolbar (black and white or colored squares). Here you can select a color mode (RGB, CMYK, LAB) and the desired hue on the color palette. To precisely select the desired color, enter the color code in the box with the hash icon.
