To connect several computers to each other or to various network devices - modems, routers, network hubs, etc. - a cable called "twisted pair" is used. There is a special tool for attaching a tip to it - a crimper. However, the need to use it in home or office conditions arises every few years, therefore, if it is not possible to get a crimper for a while, it is not necessary to purchase it - you can do with improvised means.
It is necessary
Knife, flat screwdriver
Instructions
Step 1
Begin by stripping the outer plastic insulation from the desired end of the cable. To do this, measure and mark the distance equal to half an inch - approximately 12.5 mm. This can be done either with a ruler or by attaching a tip to the cable. If a nylon thread is placed inside the braid along with the connecting wires, use it - pull it away from the end of the cable and slightly to the side so as to rip the plastic insulation to the required length. This method guarantees against damage to the insulation of the wires inside the braid. If there is no special thread in the cable you are using, carefully do this operation with a knife.
Step 2
Unwind all four twisted pairs and arrange the wiring in the sequence corresponding to the type of connection - for communication between two computers, it should not be the same as, for example, for connecting a network card to a router. Having previously straightened these wires, insert each of them into the corresponding groove of the lug, and then push it in until it stops. In this case, the sharp inner edges of the tip contacts will cut through the plastic sheath of each wiring and form a reliable connection. This design of the tip makes it possible to do without stripping the wires.
Step 3
Turn the tip over with the latch away from you and press the plastic in each of the eight grooves with a screwdriver, fixing all the wires in this way. Correctly dose the force of pressing - overdoing it, you risk breaking the tip, and insufficient fixation can lead to the fact that during the connection process the connector is disconnected from the wiring. When finished, place the plastic insert into the opening at the base of the tip - this small piece should be included with the connector. If you measured the half-inch distance correctly in the first step, the UTP cable under this hole should have an unopened outer braid. Press the insert also with a screwdriver, fixing the tip on the outer sheath of the cable.
