If you need to increase the amount of random access memory (RAM), you need to know which manufacturer's memory modules are already installed in the computer's motherboard, their type, frequency of operation and other parameters. This will allow you to select a memory module that will be compatible with the one already installed on your computer. Without knowing the memory model, you can purchase an OP that is completely incomparable with the installed ones.
It is necessary
Computer, CPU-Z utility, Internet access, screwdriver
Instructions
Step 1
You can find out the RAM model using additional software or by directly looking at the memory module itself. If you have a warranty sheet for all components separately, find the RAM in it. All information about RAM should be there.
Step 2
You can also remove the memory module from the port and look at it. Disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet and open the system cover. Find the RAM connection ports. Pull the latches on either side of the slot downward, and then slide the memory module out of the port. It should have a sticker with model information.
Step 3
If there are no stickers with information on the memory module or you do not want to open the cover of the system unit, you can use a special utility. Download the CPU-Z utility. It is distributed free of charge and takes only a few megabytes. Install the utility on your computer and run it. After starting, wait a couple of seconds while the program collects information about the system. Then the main menu of the program will appear, where the main components are located on the top panel.
Step 4
Select the SPD component. Further in the upper left corner of the program, find the inscription Memory slot selection. There is an arrow at the bottom of this inscription. Click on it and select the number of the slot for connecting the RAM. After you select a connection slot, the program window will display information about the RAM model that is connected to this slot (operating speed, type, manufacturer and other parameters). In this way, you can view separately information about absolutely all memory modules that are installed on your motherboard. If you select a slot that does not have a memory module, the information screen will simply be blank. In this way, you can not only determine the RAM model, but also find out the number of occupied slots.
