It is quite common for you to buy a used laptop or computer and want to update all the drivers for it, but you don’t know the specific models of the installed devices. It is especially offensive if the model of the video card is unknown, because it is unbearable to watch movies in worse quality than expected. Fortunately, in order to find out the model of a video card, you can use both the built-in tools of the operating system and programs from other developers.
Instructions
Step 1
The model of the video card and all other devices installed on the computer is determined by Windows automatically. Less often, it needs additional drivers, but, in the end, all devices are recognized correctly and displayed in a single list. In order to find out the model of the video card, go to the "Device Manager". This can be done either through the "Control Panel" (in the "Start" menu), or by right-clicking on the "My Computer" icon, select "Properties" and then proceed depending on the version of the Windows system.
If you have XP installed, then go to the "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button. If you have Windows Vista, then in the window that opens with the estimated system performance on the left side in the "Tasks" field, immediately select the "Device Manager" link.
Step 2
Further actions do not depend on the system version. In the window that opens, open the "Video adapters" sub-item by clicking the corresponding "+" icon, and you will see the model names of all video cards installed in the system.
Step 3
In addition to Windows tools, you can use other specialized software tools, for example, Everest, to determine the models of installed devices. Install and run the program.
Step 4
To find out the model of the video card, on the left side of the main program window in the "Menu" select the "Display" sub-item. You will see the video card model in the "Windows Video" tab on the right side of the main window in the "Device Description" field.
