To connect computers of a local network with each other or with switching devices, a cable called "twisted pair" is used. The name quite accurately defines its peculiarity - four pairs of intertwined wires are placed inside the braid of such a cable. This design largely compensates for the influence of external interference, improving the quality of signal transmission. Each of the eight wires is color-coded, and the procedure for securing them in the correct sequence in connectors is most often referred to as “crimping”.
Instructions
Step 1
Use a crossover circuit if the wire is intended to connect two devices of the same type. Such a scheme is used, for example, to organize data exchange between network cards of two computers or to connect two "hubs" - network switches, to each of which several local computers are connected. The color of the wires in this scheme for one of the connectors should alternate in the following sequence: white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown. The order of the colors of the braid of the wires for the second tip: white-green, green, white-orange, blue, white-blue, orange, white-brown, brown.
Step 2
Use a straight circuit when crimping wires connecting, for example, a computer's network card with a router or modem. In this case, the wiring should be positioned in such a way that the colors of their braiding in both lugs follow in this order: white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown. The circuitry with this sequence of wires in the lugs complies with the EIA / TIA-568B standard.
Step 3
Less commonly, the standard with the designation EIA / TIA-568A is used, which requires alternating the colors of the braid of the wires in the following sequence: white-green, green, white-orange, blue, white-blue, orange, white-brown, brown. You will not notice any difference in bandwidth or other connection parameters when using these two standards, they are equivalent.
Step 4
Use a special twisted-pair (crimper) crimping tool - available from computer stores. This tool can be replaced with an ordinary flat screwdriver and a knife, but in this case, in order not to break anything and get the desired connection quality, a much higher qualification is required.
Step 5
Strip the plastic insulation off half an inch (12.5 mm) of the cable from each end and arrange the wires in the correct order.
Step 6
Without stripping the wires, push them all the way into the corresponding holes of the contacts of each of the lugs. Then insert the plastic retainer into the opening at the base of the RJ-45 lug and crimp. The crimper has a special groove for this operation, just like for the operation described in the previous step.
