In the age of computer technology, users can solve many serious problems assigned to them. However, against the background of the complex, you often forget about the simple or do not pay much attention to it. One of these simplest steps is to set up an English keyboard layout.
The keyboard, in its first incarnation, was not intended to work together with computers. It is easy to guess that in the distant 1860s, even the most daring science fiction writers could not dream of a PC. However, it was during this time that a certain Milwaukee editor, Christopher Sholes, lived. It was he who introduced the first version of the keyboard as part of a typewriter. Further, the patent for the invention was sold to the Remington company, where the famous typewriters came from.
Few people know that at first the alphabetic row of the keyboard strictly corresponded to the English alphabet, and no one thought about the QWERTYUIOP layout. Until it turned out that on a typewriter, the keys too often sink due to the close proximity of the letters, which were used most intensively. As a result, Christopher had to think of an option in which two letters would be extremely rare. This is how the layout that is familiar to PC users appeared.
Alt + Symbol Shift
But it's better to return to the topic of the article. Over time, computers spread around the world and appeared in Russia, and with it - the Russian layout FYVAPROLJE, well known to everyone who has the skill of touch typing.
There are many options for customizing the layout, but they can be boiled down to a few common ones.
However, the need to switch between languages has not disappeared, which is usually done using the very combination that is rendered in the header Alt + Symbol Shift. This is a classic option that works most often when settings fail at an unexpected moment.
It happens that English is constantly needed when working with a PC. By switching the above combination, it is easy to fill calluses on your fingers. Therefore, you can make it so that English in the Russian version of the operating system is on by default. To do this, go to Control Panel - Regional and Languages - Languages and Keyboards - Change Keyboard - and select "English (US)" as the default language. " It's that simple! This example for Windows 7 is true for XP and earlier systems.
And if you are friends with a mouse, then just click in the lower right corner near the clock in the tray on the RU icon and also select "English (USA)".
Such different keyboards
Of course, progress will never stand still. Today there are many types of keyboards for PCs, tablets, smartphones, netbooks, nettops and other equally interesting devices. And language switching is different here too.
Once you have learned all the simplest ways to customize the layout, it will not be difficult to figure out other cases as well.
Sometimes it is enough to poke your finger on the RU icon, sometimes you need to click on Space and move it to the side to change the language or select the desired option from the proposed menu. The main thing is a little patience, and you will figure it out!
