It is impossible to disable automatic updating of all programs installed on a computer running Windows with one function. Updates are configured in each program separately.
Instructions
Step 1
Disable the automatic update feature of the standard Windows Media Player application. To do this, call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Run" dialog. Type regedit in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the Registry Editor utility by clicking the OK button. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsMediaPlayer branch and create a new REG_DWORD parameter named DisableAutoUpdate. Set the created key to 1 and save your changes.
Step 2
Adobe Reader does not have an option to disable automatic updates in the settings menu, so in order to get rid of frequent updates, you will have to perform this procedure manually. If a program update shortcut appears, cancel it and start Adobe Reader. Open the "Help" menu of the upper service panel of the program window and select the "Check for updates" item. Wait until the check is complete and open the "Settings" link in the dialog box that opens. Uncheck the boxes next to Automatically check for Adobe updates and Adobe Reader in the Select applications to update section. Confirm saving of the changes made by clicking OK.
Step 3
The Windows Update service in Windows version 7 is responsible for automatically updating the system. This function can also be disabled if required. To do this, go back to the main menu "Start" and open the item "Control Panel". Expand Security Center and select the Automatic Updates section. Apply the checkbox in the line "Disable automatic updating" of the dialog box that opens and save the changes by clicking the OK button. Please note that system updates affect system performance and may contain fixes for possible errors, therefore, completely disabling this function cannot be recommended.
