Unfortunately, in order to be able to install the Windows XP operating system using a USB flash drive as the main storage medium, it is not enough just to copy all the files from the disk to this device. It is necessary to create special boot sectors that will help the laptop determine the purpose of the USB flash drive.
Step 2
Download WinSetupFromUSB to create an installation flash drive. It is not difficult to find it on the Internet in the public domain. This utility allows you to automate the process of creating a USB flash drive for installing Windows XP.
Step 3
Before starting the utility, disable the anti-virus software or add the.exe files included in the archive to the list of exclusions.
Step 4
Copy all files important to you from the flash drive (if any). Run the WinSetupFromUSB program. In the very first line, select the USB flash drive to which you are going to write the archives of the operating system.
Step 5
Next, you need to create a bootable partition on the USB flash drive. As an example program for this process, consider the Bootice utility. Run it, select your flash card and click the Perform Format button.
Step 6
In the next window, select the third item USB-HDD mode (Single Partition) and click the Next Step button. Select the file system format from the options provided. Better to use the FAT32 or NTFS types. Press the OK button several times to complete the process.

Close the Bootice program and return to the previous utility. Find the Add to USB Disk menu and activate the first line in it. Specify the location of the Windows files. It can be an unpacked system image.

After completing this process, copy all the files in the image to your USB stick. Reboot your computer. Press the F8 button at startup and select your USB flash drive as the main device. In the menu that appears, select First part of Windows XP.
