Instructions

Step 1

When you click on a folder icon, it opens in a new window. To customize its appearance, select the "Tools" menu, the "Folder Options" item. You can also use an alternative method: from the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel". Click on the "Folder Options" icon with the left mouse button in the "Appearance and Themes" category. A new dialog box will open.

Step 2

On the General tab, you can specify how many mouse clicks to use to open files and folders, whether subfolders contained in folders should open in one window or in new windows each time. You can customize the display of a list of typical tasks in folders. On the "View" tab, you can also select items that are responsible for the parameters you need. Highlight the corresponding fields with a marker, after completing the settings, click the "Apply" button.

Step 3

If several folders are open at the same time or several applications are running, their windows can overlap each other, or they can be arranged in an orderly way on the monitor screen. The display method also depends on the selected settings. To arrange windows in a cascade, click on any place free of icons on the taskbar (the panel with the "Start" button located at the bottom of the screen).

Step 4

In the context menu, left-click on the "Cascade windows" item. All open windows will be positioned according to the specified parameter. Moreover, if folders or programs have been expanded to full screen, they will be minimized into a window. Their size may also change. All commands you specify will apply to the active window (the one on top of other windows). If you want to go to one of the lower windows, just click anywhere on it with the left mouse button.

Step 5

To set a different way of positioning windows on the monitor screen, also click on the taskbar and select one of the options from the drop-down menu: "Windows from top to bottom" or "Windows from left to right". The open windows will no longer be displayed in cascade and will take a new position on the screen.
