In such conditions, it is very important to know whether the game will run on your computer or not - after all, hardware becomes obsolete very quickly.

Step 1
Check the game requirements. Developers, before the release of each new product, put into the network the parameters of computers that will be able to run the game. Moreover, they are laid out in two versions: for "it will start" and for "it will work perfectly." These characteristics can vary greatly. This was the case with the shooter F. E. A. R., which could be run on a computer of any power, but worked with maximum graphic settings on only a few. Game requirements can be found on forums, official websites and game magazines.
Step 2
Run the benchmark. Benchmark is a young, but already well-established system for checking the power of a computer. It works as follows: you download an archive of about 1 GB from the Internet. It contains a game engine that scrolls through a video with all possible effects - explosions, NPCs, shouts and fast camera flights. You will be able to observe the playback quality with your own eyes - if the benchmark works stably, then you can be sure that the game will too.
Step 3
Check the compatibility with your OS. Since 2010, this is especially important because Microsoft once again began to actively develop operating systems, and now many games simply refuse to work on Windows XP (the first such game, by the way, was the "Halo 2" port). Likewise, older games may not get along with Windows 7 even if the system requirements are met - especially for DOS programs such as Dungeon Keeper.
Step 4
Check the gaming forums. PC is a highly differentiated platform, and hardware configurations can be so different that the developers do not consider everything. One of the most famous scandals on this topic was "Silent Hill: Homecoming", which actually refused to work on AMD graphics cards until the release of the corresponding patch. Unfortunately, such incidents do take place, so before buying the game, check the forums, section "technical support".
