Graphic editor Adobe Photoshop provides the user with a lot of tools for editing any images, including photos. There are also control elements grouped into sets for solving specific tasks - for example, for darkening or lightening an image in photographs with defects of this kind.
Instructions
Step 1
Launch Adobe Photoshop and load the photo you want to darken.
Step 2
Open the "Image" section in the menu of the graphic editor, go to the "Correction" subsection and select the "Levels" item. The graphical editor will open a separate window with the necessary settings. You can also use the ctrl + l hotkeys to access it.
Step 3
Try choosing one of the default preset combinations in the Set field. To darken the image, sets corresponding to the "Darker" and "Darker midtones" lines from this list may be suitable. If the "View" box is checked, then you can see exactly how the option you selected will change the original image.
Step 4
Choose the desired combination of values yourself if none of the standard options gives a satisfactory result. Moving the black shaded slider under the Input Values histogram from the left edge to the center can help darken the image. Likewise, moving the white-filled slider under the Output Values scale from the right edge to the center.
Step 5
Change the advanced settings, which are accessed by clicking on the "Options" button, if the desired shading is not obtained.

Click OK when finished with levels.

Another set of tools that can help make the photo darker can be opened through the same subsection "Adjustments" of the "Image" section in the Adobe Photoshop menu - select the item "Shadows / Highlights" there. In the minimum set, there are two sliders with which you need to choose the appropriate shading option. There is also an extended set of control elements that can be accessed by checking the box "Additional tools".
