Necessary

  • -Computer;
  • -disks;
  • - several drives;
  • -program SuperCopy;
  • -program BadCopy;
  • -program Nero;
  • -program Alcohol;
  • -cleaning wipes;
  • -freezer.

Instructions

Step 1

A disc is a fragile thing to become unreadable; a couple of scratches are enough for it. First, make sure that your drive can actually read the detected disc. Optical media can be in the form of CD-ROM, CD-RW, CD-R, or DVD-ROM, DVD-RW. All these formats are different, the drive must match the storage medium. Check the available disks on different hardware.

Step 2

Next, check for damage to the disk. Do not take risks if you find chips, cracks, severe damage. The disc may crack inside the drive, in which case you will have to remove the fragments.

Step 3

If the disc appears but does not open on your PC, try the following:

- use special programs. For example, SuperCopy, BadCopy. Please note that basically this software only knows how to skip damaged areas. It helps if you are trying to recover a disc with movies or music, it will not work with games.

-Polish the disc with a silk or cotton cloth. Watch for new scratches. Make movements, starting from the center, smoothly moving to the edges, but not in a circle.

- wipe the disc with a special napkin. These anti-static wipes are available at computer stores.

Step 4

Place the disc in the freezer for about thirty minutes. Wrap it in a bag to keep moisture out. This is why it helps: a cooled disk takes longer to heat up, and the drive has time to read information. The main thing is not to overexpose the disc in the freezer, the disc will become more fragile and may break.

Step 5

Create a disk image using programs such as Alcohol or Nero, copy files from the image. The virtual system will force the drive to treat information more carefully. Try to extract information from the disc using Slow CD, Nero Drive Speed. Discs can be read at different speeds, these programs are used to determine the speed.

Step 6

Wipe the disc with a soft cloth and detergent. This helps if the disc is very tangled. Remember, you cannot wipe the discs with acetone, gasoline. After such a wet cleaning, the disc must dry completely.

Wipe the dry disc with a cloth soaked in vegetable oil. Oil does not conduct electricity, it is not as liquid as water, and besides, it will remain in a scratch. Even damaged data can be recovered.
