No matter how hard you try to extend the life of your laptop, some of its parts will fail. In the "risk zone" is a DVD drive, the laser LEDs of which simply burn out over time. Also, any external influence (moisture, sand, inaccurate closing of the tray, etc.) can become the cause of breakdown. In this regard, you have to completely change the DVD drive.

Instructions

Step 1

In most cases, changing the DVD drive yourself is at great risk. The fact is that if this device is installed incorrectly, there may be a conflict with the computer's motherboard associated with interrupts on the IDE (ATA) bus. As a result, the CD drive is simply not detected by either the operating system or the BIOS. To prevent this, just follow some rules.

Step 2

First, determine the type of DVD drive. Today there are such interfaces as IDE (ATA) and SATA. Unfortunately, most often the problem occurs in the first case.

Step 3

Then use a screwdriver to remove the retaining screws located on the CD cover. Take a thin tool (you can use a paper clip or a regular hairpin) and use it to open the tray of the device. Remove the top cover completely and slide the tray forward.

Step 4

Now look at which mode the DVD drive is in. In most cases, these devices are produced with the expectation that the system automatically determines the parameters it needs. Unfortunately, the IDE bus will almost always be assigned the “Master” mode, which leads to an interrupt conflict when working with the operating system. So carefully jumper the actuator to the Cable Select or Slave position, depending on which model you choose.

Step 5

For this purpose, jumper pins 47 and 49 located in the IDE connector of the device. This will have to be done manually, since a special pin is not intended for this purpose. Take a small wire and solder it to the pins. You only need a few drops of solder.

Step 6

Then reassemble your DVD drive in the opposite direction. Those. push in the tray, cover it with a lid, tighten the bolts.
