Step 1
Begin by determining how your hard drive is connected to your mobile computer. Install the Speccy program and run it. After you finish collecting information about connected devices, go to the Hard Disk menu. Find the "Interface" item and look at its meaning. SATA hard drives are used in modern laptops.
Step 2
Decide on the amount of memory for your future hard drive. If you are the owner of a relatively old mobile computer, you should not buy a hard drive that is too large. This device may be significantly slower or incorrect.
Step 3
Now remove the old hard drive to determine the correct size for the new one. In this case, it all depends on the laptop model. If this mobile computer has a separate hard drive bay, simply remove one or two screws from the bottom of the laptop. Open the cover and carefully remove the old hard drive. This usually requires moving the device slightly away from the slot to which it is connected. Perform this process carefully so as not to damage the veins of the connector.

If possible, then study the schematic drawing of your laptop, which is in the instructions. Usually, there is indicated the location of devices that can be disconnected without completely disassembling the mobile computer.
Step 5
Sometimes, to remove the hard drive, it is necessary to completely remove the bottom wall. Follow this procedure and disconnect the old hard drive. Purchase a new hard drive after making sure that it fits freely into the laptop. Better to use the old disk for comparison.
Step 6
Connect the new hard drive to the desired slot. Turn on the laptop and open the BIOS menu. Make sure the new device is connected correctly. Install the operating system on a new hard drive and defragment it.
