Any modern computer has a network card with which you can create a local area network. The latter is necessary to build a home network that connects all the computers in your home. This will allow you to quickly transfer information to each other from hard drives or play games and exchange messages without resorting to the Internet. It is also required if you connect your computer to the Internet using cable or fiber optic networks.

Step 1
Before turning on the local network, you need to make sure that the network card is recognized by the system and is working. Click Start. Select All Programs, then Accessories. There is a "Command Line" in standard programs. Open it. Then enter Mmc devmgmt.msc and press the Enter key. After a few seconds, Device Manager will launch.
Step 2
Look for the line "Network adapters" in the device manager. Click on the arrow next to this line. A list of network adapters appears. If “Unknown device” is written instead of the model, or if you did not find the “Network adapters” section at all, then the drivers for your network card are not installed, it does not work.

The driver for the network card is on the disk for it. You can also download it from the Internet, but for this you need to know the model of the device. Different models of network cards are used for different cards. Therefore, you need to download the driver specifically for your motherboard.
Step 4
After you have verified that the card is working, plug the network cable into the network adapter interface. After that select "Control Panel", then "Network Connections". A window will open in which there should be an icon "Local Area Connection". Click on this icon with the right mouse button. A context menu will appear, in which select "Connect". Now in the status of the icon "Local Area Connection" there will be an inscription "Connected".
Step 5
If the value of the Local Connection icon says that the network cable is not connected, you need to check it again. You may not have fully inserted the cable into the network port.
Step 6
If you use a local network to access the World Wide Web, you need to additionally configure some parameters. The settings for accessing the Internet must be provided by your ISP.
