Necessary

  • - operating system distribution kit on disk;
  • - screwdriver.

Instructions

Step 1

Make sure that the power of your power supply is sufficient for further work with another device. Turn off the computer, unscrew the bolts that hold the walls of the case.

Step 2

Install the hard drive so that it falls within the range of the cooling system, since hard drives tend to get very hot, while raising the overall temperature, which negatively affects the entire operation of the computer.

Step 3

Bolt it in position by screwing it securely to the body on both sides. Connect the ribbon cable from the motherboard and the cable from the power supply. At the same time, make sure that none of them touches the motherboard or video card, does not interfere with the operation of the cooler and other equipment available in the configuration.

Step 4

Close the lid of the system unit by screwing its walls with screws. Connect your computer to a power source, turn it on. At first, the system will not display the new drive in the My Computer menu.

Step 5

Open the "Start" menu and right-click on "My Computer". Select the "Connect Disk" item, then follow the instructions of the menu to format, partition and label the volume. Reboot your computer.

Step 6

In order to make the new disk local, install the operating system on it and format the old hard drive. You can also skip formatting and leave two operating systems on the computer, while setting the BIOS to boot by default from the disk from which you prefer to work with the operating system.

Step 7

To do this, when booting the computer, press the Esc key, select a new hard drive in the hardware list, apply the changes and restart the computer. In order to boot from the operating system of another disk, simply change the settings again through the same menu itself.
