A screensaver (screensaver) is a static or animated image that appears after a certain time of inactivity of the computer on the monitor screen. If you are tired of the current screensaver, you can change it. And for this it will be enough just a few clicks of the mouse.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the "Properties: Display" window. To do this, go to the "Start" menu and go to the "Control Panel" item. Next, select in the "Design and Themes" item "Screen saver selection" or click on the "Screen" icon. There is an alternative option - right-click on any point on the desktop that is free of shortcuts and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.

Step 2

Go to the "Screensaver" tab in the window that opens. You will see a thumbnail of the current screensaver at the top of the window. Click on the "Screensaver" section and select the required line. Now you can left-click on the image to see how the new screensaver will look in full screen mode. If you want to disable the screensaver, you can select the "No" item in the same list. Then a black screen will be displayed instead.

Step 3

After looking at the new screensaver, move your mouse slightly to exit the preview mode. In the "Interval" field, using the "Up" and "Down" keys, or by entering a numerical value directly in the field provided for this, you can change the number of minutes of PC idle time after which the screen saver turns on. To save the changes, click on the "Accept" button and close the window by clicking on the "OK" button or on the icon with a cross in the window header.

Step 4

However, a screensaver is not just a pretty picture. It can also serve to protect your PC. How does this happen? And like this: the computer is idle for a specified number of minutes, after which the screen saver turns on. If the data protection mode is enabled, then when you exit the standby mode, after turning off the screen saver, a window appears for entering the user password. It will be impossible to enter the system without a password.

Step 5

In order to set the data protection mode, in the "Properties: Screen" window, on the "Screensaver" tab, check the box next to the "Password protection" item. Then close the window, before saving the changes by clicking the "Accept" button. It is worth noting that if your user account is not password protected, enabling data protection mode will do nothing for you.
