For a variety of reasons, your computer may have an extra operating system. Perhaps, when reinstalling the system, you specified a different disk or a different disk partition, or you intentionally installed an additional system for special purposes. If you have more than one operating system installed on your computer and you want to remove one of them, follow these steps.

Step 1
Load the operating system you want to keep. Find the folder with the redundant system. If you're confused and can't figure out which folder contains the extra OS, open the Run window, which can be found by opening the Start menu. Then write the command% WINDIR% in the search box and press Enter (or the OK button). A folder containing the current operating system will open. As a rule, it is located in the root directory on the C drive. You should not delete this folder, therefore, another folder contains the extra OS.

After you make sure that you have correctly identified the redundant system folder, delete it. To do this, right-click within the icon and select "Delete". The system will ask for confirmation. Click OK. After that, the folder will be deleted.

Then right-click on the "My Computer" icon and go to "Properties". Next, open the "Advanced" tab and in the group marked with the subtitle "Startup and Recovery" click "Options". In the next window, click "Edit". This will open a file named "Boot.ini" in Notepad. This file contains a menu for selecting operating systems that appears when the computer starts.
Step 4
Edit "Boot.ini" (save a copy of it beforehand). From the File menu, select Save As (after saving, close the file and click the Edit button again). Then remove from the file everything related to the redundant operating system. The lines that are associated with it can be identified by the information contained in these lines. In particular, the partitions in which each of the operating systems is installed and their name should be indicated. Then save your changes and close the file.
