When downloading updates to the mobile operating system iOS via iTunes, all firmware files are saved in the program directory. You can always use these files to save them on a separate medium as a backup, from which you can restore your Apple device even from any other computer.
Instructions
Step 1
Firmware downloaded by iTunes are located in different directories depending on the version of the operating system. In Windows XP, updates are saved in the Documents and Settings - User - Application Data - Apple Computer - iTunes - Software Updates directory. You can go to this folder using the section "My Computer" - "Local drive C:".
Step 2
In Windows Vista, 7 and 8, this folder is located in the Users - User - AppData - Roaming - Apple Computer - iTunes - Software Updates directory on the C: drive. You can go to it by selecting the "Start" menu - "Computer" - "Local drive C:". The User directory is named according to the username you use on the system.
Step 3
You can copy the files in these folders to a separate storage medium. To do this, select the files in the directory, right-click on the selection area and select "Copy". Follow the procedure for inserting your flash card into the folder using the same context menu.
Step 4
To restore firmware data after reinstalling the system or completely removing iTunes, copy these files to the appropriate directory of the program. With these files, you can also perform updates without an Internet connection or no backups in the event of a software problem with your Apple device.
Step 5
Before flashing the device, be sure to back up your data so as not to lose your contact list, downloaded music and other files. To do this, connect your device to your computer, launch iTunes, right-click on the name of your device. In the context menu that opens, select "Create a copy". After that, you will be able to carry out any operations with the device without the threat of data loss.
