A hard disk is a very vulnerable element of a personal computer. When you replace this device, you usually reinstall the operating system on the new drive. There is a way to significantly reduce the time using Windows working copy transfer technology.
Necessary
- - Partition Manager;
- - blank DVD disc.
Instructions
Step 1
To move all operating system files to another hard drive, create a copy of the local disk. It is important to understand that this process cannot be performed while working with the specified OS.
Step 2
Download a set of Partition Manager files for creating a bootable disk. They are usually presented as an ISO image. This will facilitate the process of creating a drive with the desired options.
Step 3
Burn the Partition Manager application to DVD. Be sure to disable the multisession feature to be able to run programs in DOS mode.
Step 4
Restart your computer and open the BIOS menu. Prioritize your DVD drive when booting. Restart your PC again and wait for the program to finish running from the disk drive.
Step 5
Prepare a second hard drive for copying information. When creating a copy of a partition, an unallocated area must be present. If all of the hard disk space is occupied by local volumes, delete some of them. The amount of empty space must be at least 3 GB larger than the size of the system disk.
Step 6
Now open the "Wizards" tab and click on the "Copy section" item. Select the system volume of the first hard drive with the left mouse button. Click "Next".
Step 7
Select the prepared area of the second hard drive. Click Next again. Specify the size of the future local disk. To do this, add 2-3 GB to the original volume. Click Next. Close the Copy Volume Wizard windows.
Step 8
Click the Changes tab and go to the Apply Physically field. Confirm the start of the process of processing hard drives. Do not under any circumstances cancel this procedure or turn off the computer. Use an uninterruptible power supply to prevent corruption of the partition table.
