Step 1
To copy an operating system from one hard drive to another without using additional software, create a system image. Open the System and Security menu located in the control panel. Go to the "Backup and Restore" submenu.
Step 2
Go to the item "Create a system image", Specify one of the partitions of the second hard disk as the main storage. Do not use for this purpose the partition to which this operating system will be restored.
Step 3
After completing the image creation operation, select "Create recovery disc". Insert a blank DVD into the drive and click the Create Disc button. Turn off your computer.
Step 4
Disconnect the hard drive that already has an operating system installed. Turn on your computer and start the burned disc. Select "Recover system from image". Specify the newly created operating system image. Wait for the Windows recovery to complete.
Step 5
In the event that this option does not suit you, use the Partition Manager program. Download the version of this utility suitable for your operating system and install it.
Step 6
Run the program. Open the "Wizards" tab and select "Copy Section". Select the system partition of the hard drive. Click "Next".
Step 7
Specify the storage location for this section. In this case, it will be an unallocated area on another hard drive. Click "Next". Specify the size of the future section. It should not be less than the size of the system partition. Click "Next".
Step 8
Click the "Finish" button to complete the settings. Now open the "Changes" tab and activate the "Apply Changes" item. Wait for the copying of the system partition to complete. If you are using Windows Seven, be sure to copy the 100 MB subsystem partition.
