The display of hidden files and folders in computers running Windows version 7 may be required by the user when performing various service procedures or troubleshooting certain problems. Enabling this function does not require special training or the involvement of additional software.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button. Go to Control Panel and expand the Appearance and Personalization link.
Step 2
Expand the Folder Options node and click the View tab of the Properties dialog box that appears. Apply the checkbox in the line "Show hidden files, folders and drives" in the "Advanced options" directory and confirm the saving of the changes by clicking the OK button.
Step 3
Use another method to enable the display of hidden files and folders feature. To do this, open the "My Computer" link and click the "Organize" button. Specify Folder Options from the drop-down menu and go to the View tab in the dialog that opens.
Step 4
Apply the checkbox to the "Show hidden files, folders and drives" field in the advanced settings directory and confirm the selected action by clicking OK.
Step 5
In order to disable the function of displaying hidden files and folders, you must return to the main system menu "Start" and again go to the item "Control Panel". Expand the Appearance and Personalization link and expand the Folder Options node.
Step 6
Use the "View" tab in the dialog box that opens and find the line "Show hidden files, folders and drives" in the list of additional options. Uncheck the found field and confirm the saving of the changes made by clicking the OK button.
Step 7
Please note that completing all of the above procedures assumes that you have administrator access to computer resources. Microsoft does not recommend enabling the display of hidden files and folders feature for security reasons, although some procedures require this feature.
