External IP addresses are used when you need to create a remote computer access, VPN connection, or home server. The procedure for opening the necessary ports is a standard operation performed in the Windows Firewall settings.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Windows XP operating system to perform the procedure for opening the necessary ports and go to the "Network Neighborhood" group (for Windows XP).
Step 2
Select the "View network connections" item and open the context menu of your Internet connection by clicking the right mouse button.
Step 3
Specify the "Properties" item and go to the "Advanced" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 4
Use the "Options" option and open a new port by clicking the "Add" button.
Step 5
Enter the desired value for the name of the port to open in the Description field and 127.0.0.1 in the Name or IP address of the computer on your network.
Step 6
Enter the required values of the port numbers in the "Internal port" and "External port" lines and specify the used TCP / UDP protocol in the corresponding section.
Step 7
Confirm the execution of the command to open the selected port by clicking OK and repeat the above procedure for each port to be opened (For Windows XP).

Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the Windows Vista operating system and go to the "Control Panel" item to perform the operation of opening the required port (for Windows Vista).
Step 9
Expand the Security link and select Windows Firewall.
Step 10
Expand the Allow the program to run through Windows Firewall node and confirm your administrator privileges by entering the password in the system prompt window that opens.
Step 11
Select the "Add port" option and enter the desired value for the name of the port to open in the "Name" line.
Step 12
Enter the required number in the "Port" line and specify the used TCP / UDP connection protocol in the appropriate section.
Step 13
If necessary, use the option to change the scope of the port being opened and enter the value of the required parameter.
Step 14
Confirm the execution of the open command by clicking OK and repeat the same procedure for each port to be opened (for Windows Vista).
