Each computer has its own name, which is set during the installation of the operating system and is not unique. There can be several computers with the same names in a local network at the same time. Network identification is performed by a unique IP address.

Instructions
Step 1
To give your computer an original name, go to the main system settings. To do this, right-click on the "My Computer" shortcut to bring up the context menu. Select the bottom item "Properties". A window with the main parameters of the system and computer will open. Here you can see the name of the operating system, its bit, computer performance, expressed in a special index, information about the activation of the system license, as well as the names of the computer and group.
Step 2
Click on the "Change settings" caption to open the window for configuring the network name and group settings - it is also one of the tabs in the "System Properties" window. Click on the "Change …" button - the "Change computer name or domain name" window will open.
Step 3
Change the computer name as you see fit. Do not set too long names: when displayed, the name will be abbreviated, as is customary in Windows for long shortcut names. As a rule, it is better to enter the name in English, since many applications, when connecting a local network, automatically use the name of your personal computer and determine only Latin characters and numbers. Save your changes.
Step 4
The operating system will warn you that you need to restart your computer to complete the renaming procedure. Do this, and then reopen the system properties to check the result of your actions.
