The procedure for creating or adding a new logical disk or partition of an existing volume on a computer running Windows is classified as standard and can be carried out using standard system tools. It is also possible to attract specialized applications.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel" item. Expand the "Administration" link by double-clicking and expand the "Computer Management" node also by double-clicking.
Step 2
Use an alternative method to call the computer control function. To do this, go to the "Run" dialog from the main "Start" menu and enter the value compmgmt.msc / s in the "Open" line. Confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the OK button.
Step 3
Expand the Computer Management (Local) group in the console list and select the Storage Devices item. Use the "Disk Management" command and open the context menu of the unselected area on the main volume by right-clicking. Specify the item "Create section".
Step 4
Call the context menu of free space in the additional volume by right-clicking and selecting "Create logical disk". Skip the first dialog of the wizard by clicking Next and apply the checkbox to the Logical Drive field in the next window. Follow all the recommendations of the wizard.

Return to the main system menu "Start" to perform the alternative operation of adding a logical drive and again go to the "Run" dialog. enter the cmd value in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the "Command Line" tool by clicking the OK button.
Step 6
Enter the value diskpart in the Windows command interpreter test box, and then enter the value list disk in the command line of the Diskpart utility. Determine the volume to add the partition and enter the value select disk diskname in the text box to set the selected option.
Step 7
At the command prompt, type create partition logical size = desired_disk_size offset = offset_volume_start_in_bytes noerr and press Enter.
Step 8
Assign the desired letter to the logical drive you are creating using the syntax assign letter = selected_volume letter.
