Hidden files and folders differ from normal ones in that they are not visible if the default folder view settings are used. There are two ways to create hidden directories. The first is to change the display options in the folder properties, and the second is to use an empty name and icon.
Instructions
Step 1
Hidden folders are created in the same way as normal ones, just at the end you need to change the attributes. There are several ways to create a folder. The simplest: open "Explorer" where you want to place the new folder, right-click on the free area of the window, and in the menu that opens, select "New" - "Folder".
Step 2
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, Explorer has a panel that has a New Folder button. By clicking on it, you will create a folder in the window that is currently open. In Windows XP, a graphical icon located in the panel at the top of the window will create a folder.

You can also select "New" - "Folder" from the "File" menu. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, in order for the File menu to appear, you must first press the Alt key.
Step 4
After the folder has been created using one of the above methods, name it. You can leave the default name "New Folder".

Now right-click on it, and in the menu that opens, select "Properties". The same window is opened by a combination of hot keys "Alt" + "Enter".
Step 6
In the window that opens, in the "General" tab, find the settings area entitled "Attributes". There will be a "Hidden" item. Check the box next to it and click "OK".
Step 7
The "Confirm Attribute Settings" window opens, prompting you to choose to hide only this folder or also all files and subfolders it contains. Select the option you want and click OK. The folder is hidden.
Step 8
The second method allows you to hide the folder in a completely different way. From the point of view of the system, it will be an ordinary directory, but from the point of view of the user, it will be completely invisible or almost invisible. To do this, create a folder using one of the methods described at the beginning of the instructions.
Step 9
Instead of naming a folder, hold down the alt="Image" key and enter three numbers from the Num-pad keyboard: 255. It will receive an "empty" name, that is, it will be displayed as unnamed.
Step 10
Now open its Properties. Select the "Settings" tab. At the bottom of the window is the Folder Icons subtitle. Click the Change Icon button. Among the options presented by the system, find a blank icon on which there is nothing. Select it and click OK. Now a folder without an icon and without a name is not visible to those who do not know about it.
