So beloved by all CDs and DVDs are gradually losing ground and yielding the palm to USB drives - portable hard drives and flash drives. This is not surprising, because there is simply no point in storing a mountain of 5 GB discs when there is an opportunity to purchase a small flash drive the size of a little finger with a total volume of 32 GB. And when it becomes possible to install an operating system from a flash drive, its importance increases many times over.
Necessary
USB multiboot, flash card
Instructions
Step 1
First, make the USB drive multiboot. This is necessary in order to be able to run it via MS-Dos. Download the usb multiboot archive containing all the necessary programs. Find the USB Disk Storage Format utility in it and launch it. Select the desired file system, cluster size and click "Start".
Step 2
Open the Grub4Dos Installer utility. Select the required USB drive and click Install. Find in the downloaded archive a set of the following files: grldr, memtest.img, bootfont.bin and menu.lst. Copy them to the root directory of your flash drive. Your bootable USB stick is ready.
Step 3
If you have a need to install a system from a USB flash drive, then follow these steps: - Insert the Windows installation disc into the drive;
- Insert the USB stick into the USB port;
- Copy all files from disk to USB stick. Please note that the Windows 7 image is more than 4 GB, and a 2-4 GB flash drive is enough to install Windows XP.
