By default, the Windows operating system automatically detects connected USB drives. If the computer stops displaying the contents of the desired device, this indicates a certain problem, which may be related to both software and hardware components of the system.

Step 1
Connect the flash drive to your computer and go to the connected device management program. To do this, right-click on the "Start" - "Computer" menu item and select the "Properties" section. In the window that appears, click on the "Device Manager" link. If the flash drive is not detected in the system and is not displayed in any way in this window, it is likely that it is faulty.
Step 2
Try connecting the storage medium to any other computer, or insert another flash drive into the USB port. If another data carrier is detected in your system, then the problem lies in a malfunction of the device, which was not detected.
Step 3
When connecting a phone, player or tablet to a computer, check the settings of this device. It is likely that its parameters simply do not indicate the type of connection that can be selected in the corresponding item in its menu. If you are connecting the device with a cable, check that it is not damaged and that it fits snugly into the port on the computer.
Step 4
If the media is fully functional, try connecting it to another USB port on your computer. As a rule, modern systems have several holes for connecting devices.
Step 5
If you are using a newly purchased computer and have never connected a flash drive to it before, check for the required USB drivers. To do this, go to the "Device Manager" and look for the item "USB Controllers". If this menu is missing or marked in yellow and an exclamation mark, double-click the left mouse button on the "Other devices" - "USB controllers" section and select "Update driver". After the procedure, restart the computer and try again to insert the storage medium into the USB slot of the computer.
Step 6
If the flash drive is still not detected, you need to delete the "INFCACHE.1" file. To do this, go to the Windows - System32 - DriverStore directory of the C hard drive and select the appropriate document to delete.
