Black and white photographs have long been considered an example of style and elegance, and many dream of transforming their photo by making it black and white. There are tons of black and white photo manipulation options, and in this article you will learn how you can edit them and how to give a full color black and white effect using Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the photo for editing. You can apply the most basic desaturation methods to it - Grayscale and Desaturate.
Step 2
Despite the speed, these methods do not differ in quality results, since the first method converts all channels to gray, and the second does not allow subsequent conversion of color channels. Both methods do not provide an opportunity to work with color channels after converting a photo to black and white colors.
Step 3
You will get a better result using the Channel Mixer tool, but a better and more convenient option would be to use the Black & White tool found in the Image> Adjustments menu.
Step 4
On the layers palette, click on the black and white circle icon and select then Black & White - thus, the tool is applied as an adjustment layer. In the window that opens, set the parameters for converting the photo, and, if desired, select a preset from the drop-down list.
Step 5
Among the presets, you will find settings for various lens filters. Try to apply each of them to your photo, choosing the one that works for you. You can manually modify the effect by moving the Reds, Yellows, Greens, Cyans, Blues, Magentas controls.
Step 6
In this way, you can manually set the brightness of each color range. If the created conversion setting is successful, save it by choosing the Save Preset option.
Step 7
With this method, you can process photos not only in black and white, but also tint them - for example, create a sepia effect.
