Securing cells in tables created in Excel included with Microsoft Office can be useful if you have complex formulas and predefined constants in the selected table. By default, every cell in the worksheet is locked, but if the worksheet is not protected, any user can edit the data.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Windows operating system by pressing the "Start" button to initiate the procedure for protecting the cells of the selected table from changes and go to the "All programs" item.
Step 2
Expand Microsoft Office and start Excel.
Step 3
Select the table to protect the cells and open it.
Step 4
Select the required cell or cells, and open the "Format" menu of the top toolbar of the Excel application window.
Step 5
Specify the item "Cells" and go to the "Protection" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 6
Apply the checkbox to the "Protected cell" field and confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking the OK button. All unselected cells will remain editable.
Step 7
Apply the checkbox to the "Hide formulas" field to prohibit editing the contents of the selected cell and click the OK button to confirm the saving of the changes made.
Step 8
Expand the "Tools" menu of the upper toolbar of the application window to set protection for the selected ranges of cells and select the "Protection" item.
Step 9
Select the "Allow changing ranges" option to delimit the required ranges and click the "Create" button in the dialog box that opens.
Step 10
Enter the values for the range names, cell addresses associated with it, and the password in the appropriate fields for each user and confirm your selection with OK.
Step 11
Return to the "Service" menu and once again call the "Protection" dialog to enable the prohibition of editing the entire sheet of the selected document.
Step 12
Use the "Protect Sheet" option and enter the desired password value in the dialog box that opens.
Step 13
Apply the checkboxes in the boxes of the required exclusions and confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking the OK button.
