Most modern computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones and other devices are equipped with WiFi adapters for connecting to a wireless network. It is very convenient to use wireless Internet access - it makes it possible to move freely around the apartment, always be in touch and reduce the number of wires. The parameters for connecting devices to the network are configured once, no further actions will have to be taken in the future.
What is needed to create a wireless network
1. Router.
It is best to choose a model that has the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo on the label. There are currently four types of wireless networking technologies in use: 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n. Choose devices that support 802.11g or 802.11n as they have the most bandwidth.
2. Wireless adapters
Buy devices from the same company. This will help avoid compatibility issues.
A network adapter is a device through which a computer will connect to a network. Nearly all laptops and many desktop computers have built-in wireless LAN adapters.
To check for an adapter, go to Start - Control Panel - System and Security. In the "System" section, open the "Device Manager" window and click on the "Network Cards" icon. All installed network devices will be shown. If the adapter with the word "wireless" is not among them, you will have to purchase it yourself. Make sure the drivers are installed on the device.
3. Internet connection
To connect to the Internet, you must enter into an agreement with a service provider, purchase the necessary equipment (cable or DSL modem) and follow the instructions of the supplier.
Configuring the router and creating a network
WINDOWS 7 implements WCN - Windows Connect Now technology, which greatly simplifies the creation and configuration of a wireless network.
1. Install the router. To reduce interference, it is better to place it higher from the floor, and not close to the wall. There should be no metal objects nearby. Connect the device to the mains.
2. Open the "Control Panel" and go to the "Network and Sharing Center" tab. Select "Set up a new connection or network". In the window that opens, click "Create and configure a new network". You will be presented with a list of available WCN-enabled wireless devices showing the purchased wireless router. Enter the pin code found on the label of your router. Click Next.
For streaming media, it is best to configure your computer to use an 802.11a or 802.11n connection. When watching videos and listening to music, they will provide a higher bit rate.
3. Specify the required parameters: wireless network name, network password, security level and encryption type. Confirm the settings by clicking the Next button. The access point (wireless router) is configured. It will automatically connect to the wireless network.
4. The "Network Configuration Completed Successfully" dialog box appears, displaying the key of the created network. This key is required to connect other computers and devices to the created network.
5. In the same window, you will be prompted to print instructions for connecting other computers to the access point and write the settings for importing the network profile to the USB flash drive. This will make it easier for other devices to connect to the network. You can agree with the suggestions of windows, or do it later by opening the "Wireless Network Properties" section.
