Virtualization in modern computers is divided into software and hardware, supported by Intel processors - VT-x technology, and AMD processors - AMD-v technology. Enabling hardware virtualization is required when using certain guest operating systems or using 64-bit OS, and in certain computer models (Samsung, Acer), virtualization is a pre-installed system function.
Instructions
Step 1
Download and install the specialized Intel Processor Identification Utility - Windows Version to determine if your computer's processor can support virtualization.
Step 2
Bring up the main menu of the Microsoft Windows operating system by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "All Programs" item to start the tool.
Step 3
Specify the installed application and go to the "CPU Technology" tab of the opened program dialog box.
Step 4
Determine the virtualization support option for the processor you are using in the Enhanced Intel Processor Technology Support group and restart your computer to enable support.
Step 5
Use the F2 function key to enter the boot menu of a Panasonic computer and go to the BIOS Advanced Settings menu (for Panasonic computers).
Step 6
Define the Intel Virtualization Technology option and select Enable.
Step 7
Exit the setup utility by pressing the F10 function key and confirm the selected changes with Yes.
Step 8
Exit the BIOS setup utility by pressing the function key Enter (for Panasonic computers).
Step 9
Use the blue ThinkVantage key of your Lenovo ThinkPad computer after turning on the computer to bring up the boot settings menu, and press the function key F1 to enter the BIOS settings dialog.
Step 10
Navigate to Config using the arrow keys and expand the selected node by pressing the Enter softkey.
Step 11
Select "Processor" (CPU) and confirm your choice by pressing the Enter key.
Step 12
Expand the Intel Virtualization Technology option by pressing Enter and select the Enable command.
Step 13
Confirm the execution of the command by pressing the Enter key and repeat by pressing the same key to continue the operation.
Step 14
Apply the selected changes by pressing the F10 function key and confirm your choice with the Yes option in the system request window that opens.
Step 15
Disconnect the computer from the power source and then turn it back on.
