Step 1
Make sure you understand the basic difference between XML and HTML - the former is for describing the content of a document, while the latter is for describing the display. In general, the XML format is a method of placing information organized in a certain way in a text document to ensure that the selected data is recognizable by various programs. The unlimited use of mutable tags in this format is intended to provide the ability to define, transfer, and interpret information between programs. Document style sheets allow you to transform selected information according to the instructions they contain and define possible formatting methods.
Step 2
View the desired XML document in Excel without using a style sheet. This option will result in a linear display of data in the form of a table, consisting of headers, which are XML tags, and lines with the corresponding information. The root node of the file, which is the first element of the document, in this variant becomes the heading of the entire table, and all remaining tags are arranged alphabetically. Each row of such a table is unique and does not repeat itself.
Step 3
Using linked style sheets involves choosing the method for displaying document data. Be sure to use a tag with the value? Xmlversion = "1.0"? to be able to view an XML file created in any other application. Failure to use the specified tag results in a text version of the selected document being displayed.
Step 4
Expand the "Data" menu of the upper service panel of the Excel window to create the required web request and select the "Import external data" item. Use the Create Web Request subcommand and enter the details.
