Setting up password protection in the Mac OS operating system is provided by standard system tools. The algorithm of actions depends on the object of protection and can be changed.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the Apple logo at the top left of your computer desktop to bring up the Mac OS main menu and select System Preferences to reset, create, or edit a user account password.
Step 2
Select the "Accounts" item in the "System" section and click on the lock icon at the bottom of the window that opens.
Step 3
Enter the value for the administrator password and specify the account to edit the password.
Step 4
Use the "Change password" option and enter a new password value in the "Password" field.
Step 5
Confirm your selection by re-entering the same value in the “Confirm” field and click the OK button to apply the selected changes.
Step 6
Go to "Security" under "Personal" and apply the check box next to "Prompt for password immediately upon exiting from sleep or screensaver mode."
Step 7
Run the "Disk Utility" application from the "Applications" folder to perform the operation of setting password protection for the selected folder and open the "New Image" menu in the upper toolbar of the application window.
Step 8
Enter the desired folder name in the "Save As" field and select the desired save location in the "Where" field.

Enter 2.5 GB in the Size field and select the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) option from the Format drop-down list.
Step 10
Specify the item "128-bit AES" in the directory of the "Encryption" line and select the "Hard Disk" command from the "Partitions" menu.
Step 11
Select the "Growing disk image" option in the drop-down list of the "Disk format" field and confirm the command execution by clicking the "Create" button.
Step 12
Enter the desired value for the new password in the Password field of the new dialog box and re-enter the same value in the Confirmation field.
Step 13
Confirm the execution of the command by clicking OK and double-click on the encrypted folder that appears in the selected save location to mount a separate disk for reading and writing.
