When setting up your own wireless LAN, it is very important to protect it. This will prevent not only unwanted connections to your network, but also changing its settings.
It is necessary
network cable
Instructions
Step 1
Connect your Wi-Fi router to AC power and turn on this equipment. Connect the router to the computer from which you will be setting up. To do this, use a network cable. Plug the ISP cable into the Internet or WAN connector.
Step 2
Open the manual for the Wi-Fi router and find the IP address of this device in it. Launch the browser and enter the numbers written out from the instructions into its address bar. Press the Enter key. Fill in the Login and Password fields with the required values, which are also contained in the user manual.
Step 3
Some router models offer to change the account name and password immediately. Follow this procedure. If this option was not provided, then open the Advanced Setup or Security menu. Enter the new data required to access the device settings. Be sure to save your changes and reboot your Wi-Fi router.
Step 4
Pay special attention to the security settings of the wireless access point. After all, in order to gain access to the settings of the router, an attacker must connect to it, because only you can make a wired connection. When configuring the Wireless Settings menu, select the highest quality security type. We recommend using WAP or WPA2-Personal protocols.
Step 5
Be sure to enter a strong password. It is recommended to use for this not only Latin letters and numbers, but also special characters, for example $ and &. Note that the longer the password, the more difficult it is to guess.
Step 6
To increase the security of the Wi-Fi router, open the Security menu and enter the MAC addresses of devices that will be allowed to connect to this equipment. Save the settings and reboot the router. Periodically open its web interface and check the list of connected computers.
