The international computer exhibition Computex Taipei is held annually at the World Trade Center in the capital of Taiwan. After the breakthrough in information technology in Taiwan in the early 90s of the last century, the exhibition in Taipei has grown into a large-scale arena for the computer industry. Today Computex is the largest Asian exhibition of its kind.
The first Computex Taipei exhibition was held in 1981. It enabled Taiwan's nascent SMEs to showcase their high-tech achievements. Events of this kind became traditional and gradually attracted the attention of leading manufacturers of electronics and computer technology, who saw the opportunity to present their developments to the whole world. Computex is focused on the professional community, creating conditions for the formation of partnerships between manufacturers.
In terms of the scale and number of visitors, the annual exhibition in Taipei is second only to a similar exhibition in Hannover, Germany - CeBIT. The latter is considered to a large extent to be an American and European platform, although the developments of Asian manufacturers are also represented in Hanover.
More than 100 thousand people visit the Computex Taipei exhibition every year, one third of them are foreign specialists. Taiwan has a number of IT businesses, including manufacturing and R&D centers, so IT professionals actively participate in exhibitions.
Traditionally, all Computex Taipei exhibitions include several thematic sections: software, computer technology, components and parts, motherboards, digital video and audio equipment and a number of others. The peculiarity of the exhibition is that real working product samples are demonstrated at the exhibitors' stands. Exhibition events are complemented by thematic seminars, forums and conferences of manufacturers, where leaders of the computer technology market discuss pressing issues and present industry innovations.
As a rule, a computer exhibition is held at several venues in the city. These are the hall at the International Convention Center and three halls at the Taipei World Trade Center. The next exhibition, which took place in early June 2012, was prepared and organized by TAITRA and TCA. The large number of companies represented at Computex Taipei makes it a favorite place for those who want to be the first to see where computer technology is developing.
