To properly install the Windows operating system, you need to configure the hard disk partition on which it will be located. In the event that another OS is located on it, it must be formatted.

Step 1
In the event that you need to configure the state of the hard disk before installing the operating system, use the Partition Manager program. Download the version of this utility suitable for your operating system.
Step 2
Install Partition Manager and launch the program. Right-click on the partition of the disk that you want to clean up and click the "Format" button. Select a file system. Set the cluster size (better use the default option).
Step 3
Click the "Format" button to start the cleaning process for the selected partition. Restart your computer after completing disk cleanup. Begin installing the operating system on the prepared partition.
Step 4
If you do not need to fine-tune the disk, then just start installing the operating system. Using the step-by-step OS installation menu, get to the hard disk partition selection window.
Step 5
If you are installing the Windows XP operating system, then specify the partition on which you want to install the OS. Select the "Format to FAT32" or "… to NTFS" option. Press the F button to confirm your choice and start the formatting process. After its completion, the installation of Windows XP on the specified partition will automatically continue.
Step 6
When you are installing Windows Seven or Vista, click the "Configure Disk" button when the partition selection window appears. Select any local drive and click the "Format" button. The process will take a few seconds.
Step 7
If you need to change the file system format, then first click the "Delete" button. Now click on the "Create" button. Select the file system type and specify the size of the future disk. Now proceed to install the operating system on a formatted or any other disk partition.
