Changing the letter of the boot or system drive is allowed only in cases of complete replacement of these values without the knowledge and permission of the user. The proposed algorithm of actions is aimed at restoring the initial parameters of the system.
Instructions
Step 1
Log in to the system through your computer administrator account and click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu to perform the operation of changing the letter of the boot drive.
Step 2
Go to Run and enter regedit32.exe in the Open field.
Step 3
Click OK to confirm the launch of the Registry Editor tool and expand the following branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / MountedDevices.
Step 4
Specify the MountedDevices parameter and use the "Permissions" command in the "Security" menu of the top toolbar of the program window.
Step 5
Apply the Full Control check box in the Administrators node and exit regedit32.exe.
Step 6
Return to the main menu "Start" and go to the item "Run" for the next launch of the tool "Registry Editor".
Step 7
Enter regedit.exe in the Open field and press the Enter function key to confirm the command.
Step 8
Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / MountedDevices registry key and select the / DosDevices / drive letter entry with the desired drive letter (example: / DosDevices / C:).
Step 9
Call the context menu of the selected parameter by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Rename" item.
Step 10
Enter the value of the unused letter in the new drive name (example: / DosDevices / A:) and select the entry containing the letter to be changed (example: / DosDevices / D:).
Step 11
Call the context menu of the selected parameter by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Rename" item.
Step 12
Restore the default value of the drive letter to the new name (example: / Dos Devices / C:) and open the context menu of the created entry / DosDevices / A: by right-clicking.
Step 13
Select Rename and restore the original drive letter to the changed name (example: / DosDevices / D:).
Step 14
Restore the original permissions in the Administrators section and restart the computer to apply the selected changes.
