During installation, the operating system assigns letters to all disks on the computer itself. Also, letters are automatically assigned when a new medium is connected to the system. However, you can change the selection made by the operating system if you wish.
Instructions
Step 1
This operation requires the user to have administrator rights, so if necessary, log out and log in with an administrator account.
Step 2
Right-click the "My Computer" shortcut on your desktop, and then select "Manage" from the drop-down context menu.
Step 3
In the control window that opens, find in the left pane the section with the name "Storage Devices" and select the subsection "Disk Management" in it.
Step 4
It will take some time for the computer to map all physical and virtual disks on removable and resident media. The more there are, the more seconds the operation will take. When a picture with a list of disks and information about them appears in the right pane, right-click the one whose letter should be replaced. In the context menu that appears, select the line "Change drive letter or drive path".
Step 5
A separate window will open in which you need to click the button labeled "Change" to open the following dialog box with the computer. In it, next to the inscription "Assign a drive letter (A-Z)", there is a drop-down list containing the letters that are currently free. Choose among them the one that suits you best.
Step 6
The computer will ask you to confirm the command to change the letter designation of the specified drive - click "Yes".
Step 7
After that, it remains to close the windows used in this procedure - click the "OK" button in each of them. The drive letter will thus be changed.
