Instructions
Step 1
The need to change the image file format arises, as a rule, when the camera is configured to record pictures in one of the following formats: BMP, TIFF or RAW. They are too large and take up a lot of space on your hard disk, memory card or other medium.
Step 2
If you need to change files that are recorded in BMP or TIFF to JPEG, you can go the simplest way and use the application that is in a computer with any version of Windows operating system. Open the Start menu and under All Programs select Paint.
Step 3
Add your file to the Paint window. To do this, left-click on it and, while holding it down, drag the file into the program window. Now click in the upper left corner of the window on the blue button, when you hover over which the inscription Paint appears (in earlier versions of Paint, select the File menu section).
Step 4
Hover your cursor over the Save As menu bar. In the latest versions of Paint, a submenu will open in which you need to select the command "Image in JPEG format". In previous versions, you can specify the destination file format in the dialog box that appears when you activate the Save As command.
Step 5
In the dialog box that opens, select the folder where you want to save the finished file. This can be any location on your computer's hard drive or external media (except for CDs and drives of some mobile devices with incompatible file systems, such as iPhone / iPod / iPad). The file will be saved as JPEG.
Step 6
If the original file is in RAW, you should use another program to change the format. It can be either popular Photoshop or other special programs (Total Image Converter, Raw Therapee, Adobe Lightroom, etc.). Load the file into one of these applications and choose Save as from the File menu and select JPEG as the target format.
